A Sustainable Spirit Company

A Sustainable Spirit Brand

At 58 and Co. we pride ourselves on being the sustainable drinks brand as weā€™re passionate about producing sensationally tasting eco-friendly UK gin. We are committed to being part of the climate change solution, working to reduce our environmental impact through our waste management, energy usage and materials selection.

Our goal is to make our gin the most sustainable alcohol you drink, as we strive to be an industry-leading sustainable drinks brand.

Mitigating Food Waste

Food production is the biggest single contributor to climate change. Yet it is estimated that well over one-third of all food is wasted.

Itā€™s estimated that up to 25% of perfectly good apples in the UK are wasted on ā€˜cosmetically defectiveā€™ grounds. This is one of the many reasons why 58 and Co. have teamed up with Loddington Farm in Kent, which supplies us with apples that would otherwise be wasted.

Our Apple & Hibiscus Pink Gin is made from 100% wonky (ā€˜wasteā€™) apples that are not considered fit for the supermarket shelves. This is just one of the things we’re doing in the fight against food waste.

Eco-friendly Gin UK

Aiming to be the UKā€™s sustainable gin brand, each quarter the 58 and Co. team spends a day at Loddington Farm planting juniper bushes and other trees across the 225-acre site in the Kent countryside.

As well as helping to offset our carbon footprint, our aim is that in the years to come we will have a thriving juniper woodland where we will be able to source both the apples and juniper for our pink gin directly from the farm

We have also signed up to Ecologi, where we fund climate positive projects that remove more greenhouse gasses than the carbon footprint the 58 and Co. creates.

Full Circle Sustainable Process

As part of our drive for sustainability within craft distilling, we have expanded our partnership with Loddington Farm to help bring our vision for a fully green circle process of ā€œethical distillingā€ one step closer with our organic by-product from the gin production going back to the farm to become compost for the apple trees and juniper bushes we’ve planted there.

Sustainable Alcohol Packaging

As an independent sustainable craft distillery, our philosophy is ā€˜Distilling What Mattersā€™ and this translates into everything we do, from the care and consideration that goes into the spirits we produce to the packaging we use.

Our make our bottles and glass corks are produced with recycled glass and are fully recyclable and plastic-free. Once you have enjoyed any of our products, you can recycle our packaging locally and know that you’ve enjoyed award-winning gin from a company focused on having a positive impact on our planet’s sustainability.

100% Recyclable Packaging

We ship all our bottles in 100% recyclable and biodegradable packaging and omit the use of plastic packing materials such as bubble wrap and inflatable packs

Sustainable Gin Distillery

Running the 58 and Co. on renewable energy was one of the first steps we took towards lowering the environmental impact of our spirit production. Although switching to a renewable energy supply is a great step towards tackling climate change, we wanted to go a step further. Thatā€™s why we have partnered with SPS Energy to convert the 58 and Co. into a solar-powered site and have committed to our distilling operation being 100% solar powered by the end of 2021.

Ultra-low Emission Distribution

The high carbon output of national distribution is one of the biggest challenges to overcome. One way we are tackling this issue is by working with a logistics company that uses the largest zero-emission fleet in the industry and is recognised as the leading Carbon Balanced supplier. Championing our environmentally conscious philosophy across our range of products and services, we also offer contract distilling services for those interested in award-winning bespoke gins.
